So I got an i5-6400 for about $120 USD brand new at microcenter on sale about 6 months ago. Paired it with my Z170x-Gaming7 motherboard. I was able to push a BCLK overclock to 4.8ghz. This thing is an absolute monster temps go to about 70 when stress testing for 12hours, but stay around 35 when gaming. What do you guys think of this?

The i5 6th gen is all the exact same 6400 through 6600k only difference is clock speeds and the k is unlocked. I achieved the 6600ks performance with a good deal on a lower clocked cpu by buying a mother board that was $50 more then a B board. Got it for $150 and saved a few hundred bucks. And warranty means nothing to me unless its really killing my wallet.

You guys do know of the BIOS hack that motherboard manufacturers created right? Where it makes the BCLK only effect the cpu and memory? Everything else keeps there base at 100. Well that bios is still easy to attain and it works just fine. All temps stay around 25 degrees idle and cpu is the only thing that exceeds 30 other then my gpu.

Its been doing a dang good job for the past few months. Decemberish I'm building a ryzen 5 system with faster RAM so it wont be a hassle if it does go out. But I have a feeling it will last 5 years this way.

One last question; why on earth would you pair a 6400 with a high end Z170 board and cooler when you could have gotten an i7 setup for nearly the same price?
As a result you've also voided the warranty on the mobo and CPU as well, and are running what could potentially be a disaster waiting to happen.

I didn't purchase them at the same time. I got a good deal on an i5 $120 and the z170 was down from 200 to 150 a couple months after that. It was just a series of events that happened to really fit my budget and I plan on getting 6700k whenever my budget allows me to and I have a board ready for it. And I just got my hands on a MSI b150 pc mate at a wholesaler for $50 so ill have a home for the i5 as well when I do get a 6700k.
