I am looking to install a graphics card for better performance in HD video playback. My specific goal is to be able to watch up to 1080i@30Hz or 1080p@60Hz video using the h264 and h265 codecs on my existing desktop. I am currently using a Gateway DX4370-UR21. The operating system I am running is Ubuntu Linux 16.04 LTS. I am currently using a VGA connection, but I would also like to have HDMI output as well. The system is using all the original hardware it came with. I don't game on it, but I do plenty of video editing with mostly the h264 codec and other multimedia on it. The existing configuration allows me to view HD video, but at a noticeably lower frame rate. I have been using an HD Media Player to view the HD video, but I want to be able to properly inspect the video on my desktop because that will save me a lot of time if the video encoding is faulty. I am on a limited budget so I'd like to try to avoid upgrading the power supply if possible.

I would strongly suggest getting a HD6670 and using the AMD Hybrid GPU (APU+discrete GPU crossfire) setup. That way your A6 APU's GPU core will be utilized and you would get a decent discrete GPU power as well. That would also allow connection through HDMI and would have a decent boost for the type of usage you desire.
