Middle mouse doesn't do anything?

I've had this mouse for ages since when I first made my current PC (almost three years ago) and Somehow I never noticed this problem before.

I noticed it when I was playing a game called "Charlie Murder" in this game one of your core abilities is forcefully bound to middle mouse. (Normally when I check the controls in a game I rebind middle mouse functions to one of the two side buttons as to make it easier on my hand.)

at first I assumed it was a problem with the game but just to be safe I set about testing my middle mouse in a handful of other games and it doesn't seem to work in any of them.

as far as I can tell the button SHOULD work it has a reasonable amount of resistance and even goes 'click' when pressed but nothing seems to happen I tried using Win 7's built in device manager to check/update my mouse drivers only to find I have the latest drivers.

has anyone run across a problem like this or could they guess a likely fix? again my keyboard and mouse which I bot as a pack did NOT come with any driver softwear or instructions on how to install any such softwear.

My mistake, now that I look, it sounds like you have the devastator mouse and keyboard. They do not have a software. You could try to remap with a third party software but it may not work. I know it sounds silly, but try mashing the button. The devastator is made with a switch under the mmb that can come out of place. Otherwise, you may want to invest in a new set. You can get the v2 of the set for $30

Its been ages since I bought it, so I don't remember the exact name.

it just says CM Storm on the left mouse button. Same is on the keyboard. and its just listed as HID Compliant mouse in the device manager

Visit Cooler Masters website and download the software for your mouse. I am not sure which exact model you have, so I can't link the exact one. Just search CM storm software, whichever looks like your mouse is the one you need. After acquiring that make sure your mmb is set to default. If so, it could be a broken microswitch. Do you have any side buttons? You could map the mmb to one of them

I really don't want to spend any money or a new set up. I might just take the mouse apart and see if I can't fix it by hand.
