Hi guys, i just bought and installed a new GTX 1060 6GB( gigabyte windforce , oc ). I uninstalled all old card (gt 730) drivers from controll panel, then installed the 1060 to my pc. Installed geforce experience and installed through geforce experience the newest drivers. I launched some games and there were some crashes and strange behavior. In dark souls 2 (64 bit remastered), the colors of the game instantly got strange, and when i alt+tab the whole pc screen got something like a light grey filter and everything appeared with grey colours. I restarted the pc and problem was solved. Then i tested Dirt rally 3. I changed the settings to ultra, and when i went back to main menu to start the game, the screen froze and went black. The gamw was playing on backround because i could hear the music and menu sounds. I try to alt tab, nothing happens, i ctrl+alt+delete and the task manager wont appear. Only soluttion was to restart the pc once again. So 2/5 games i tried with the new gpu crashed. Should i be worried ? Because im very worried right now. :(

Hi ,
is it on purpose that the RAM is clocked at 532 MHz ?
Because in my opinion Its wayyy to low.
this could theoretically be the reason for the crashes

@Basti2000 ram is 532 but its ddr (double data rate) so its actually @1064mhz. Until now with the 730 there were no crashes or strange sh*t happening.
@kyzarvs the psu is a non 80 plus or any type of guaranteed efficiency, it is 600W , so even if it is not efficient , the wattage is enough i guess.

The thing is guys, its only on those 2 games. I am playing witcher 3, shadow of mordor, skyrim and many other games just fine. So its not a psu issue since it can handle demanding titles like these. Only dark souls 2 corrupts the screen colors the moment the game launches, and i figured out that in dirt 3, it was the high FXAA that caused the problem on the menu.

@amdrx480 i have read in other posts here in toms hardware that ddu is not necessary when switching from a nvidia gpu to another nvidia gpu. Most nvidia gpus even use the same drivers. So i just uninstalled old ones, and installed new ones through geforce experience.

Could it just be a bad optimization or compatibility issue with the game and the 1060 ?

I tested Assassin's Creed 3 as well yesterday night. It would achieve a maximum of 50 fps with ultra settings. With some dips to 40 fps. Im playing on 1080p btw. I dont think its normal for the 1060 to have such a low performance on a game such as AC3

Update : monitoring AC3 with afterburner , shows a gpu usage maximum of 50% even when i have fps dips. From nvdia control panel maxim performance is selected btw. I will try to use ddu and reinstall all drivers although i thinks its unlikely to be a driver problem, since both gpus are Nvidia and i had removed all old drivers (from pc controll panel ), and reinstalled the latest through geforce experience.

AC3 has trash cpu usage, dont use it for testing your card.

If you dont have enough demading games for testing try using nvidia DSR 4x
Or unigine benchmarks which are free

CPU working at 65 + % all the time. GPU wont go more than 45-50%. Many dips to 45-50 fps instead of having constant 60.

I benchmarked Shadow of Mordor as well : (results look good and legit for this gpu).

Then i went to some Withcer 3 :

But when i turn off V sync and allow unlimited fps i get :

So what i get from all this, whenever i have Vsync on, gpu is not working enough to provide constant 60 fps, why is that guys ?
(on the screenshots i try to save an average fps moment, so you can kind of take the afterburner fps as an average ) .
