Computer loses video when playing games

My computer keeps crashing when playing games, but in a very strange way. The video goes out, and my monitors say there's no signal so they go into sleep mode. The audio also goes out, but sometimes it plays a weird, half second clip of whatever was playing. The computer itself doesn't shut off though. Sometimes this happens withing 10 minutes, and sometimes it will stay working for over an hour.

I think it may have to do with my gpu (msi gtx 970 gaming edition) because it usually feels pretty warm, and the fans aren't spinning.

If the fans aren't spinning the GPU could be overheating and shutting off. The GPU will feel warm regardless if the fans spin or not, but if the GPU feels really hot (almost too hot to touch), then she's certainly overheating.

Leave the side of your case off (if you don't have a windowed case) and see if the fans spin on the GPU when you have your system running. You should be able to see the fans spin. You should also utilize a program such as EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner and try to force a manual fan profile to see if your GPU fans are working.

They do work, Ive checked a few time, while playing a game or just when the computer is on, but they don't seem to run all the time. The last few times it's happened they were off.
I will try the programs to see if that shows results
