Helped a friend build his first PC and encountered that we weren't getting any signal from the pc to the monitor. Checked for the 3 lights on the mobo to light up then go but the VGA light never lights up and the DRAM light lights up for about 3-5 seconds then goes. All fans are spinning including the graphics card fans. We have tried booting with/without graphic card (same result) 1 and no sticks of RAM, reset CMOS (removed battery and placed screwdriver between the allocated pins). Help needed ASAP would be appreciated!

Build
CPU : Intel-i5 7500 LGA 1151
Motherboard : MSI Z170A Krait Gaming 3X
RAM : HyperX Fury DDR4 8GB (2x4GB)
GPU : Asus GTX 1060 6GB
PSU : EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified
Case : NZXT S340

Solution
If it is BIOS problem, putting 6th gen CPU into motherboard would make the system start. Once you can get to BIOS, you can update it. But if the reason is different, using 6th gen CPU will not help.

What other possible explanations could there be for it not working as purchasing a 6th gen cpu isn't an option for us?

This was the first thing we looked at when we researched for help, none of it was of use :/ Might be taking it into a store for tomorrow for them to give a diagnosis on what the potential problem could be

Actually, store might be able to update BIOS for you for a small fee.
