Can someone please rate my PC and give me some suggestions....

Processor: Intel Core i7 2600k, CPU 3.4
RAM: 16 GB
Graphics- ASUS R7 370 Series
Storage- JMicron JMB36X Controller
Motherboard- Maximums IV Gene-Z/Gen3
Case-Thermaltake V3
Hard drive- WDC WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0
Windows 7, Service pack 1

I have a friend make this list for me. Built this about 5 years ago, and im starting to run into load times and such taking forever. Ill take w/e suggestions you guys have. Thanks in advance

Guaranteed you'll get better suggestions than mine - this board is a great place!

How full is your HD? Are you spending a ton of time swapping between RAM and a highly fragmented HD?

I'd run some type of software to check the SMART stats from the disk to be sure that you don't have a failing disk. I've used http://www.passmark.com/products/diskcheckup.htm for years, but there are other good utilities out there as well. This software is available at no cost.

I'd also look at the Task Manager to look for things like
o Is there a process that is consuming massive CPU time or RAM?
o Have you picked up lots of background programs or Startup tasks over the years that are not really doing anything for you but loading and...

Check that your CPU is, in fact running at the expected core speed. You can use http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html to get this info. Maybe you have a broken fan or a severely dusty case that is blocking airflow and thus the CPU is clocking more slowly.

Are all of your drivers up to date?

If you boot into SAFE mode, is the machine still slow? This might indicate that the culprit is some application that is loading at startup.

Hi -
VRUMOR raises a good point. Is your PC slow in general, regardless of what you are doing, or is it just on newer games? If this is a general problem and the performance is less than when it was new, it may be worth the time to try to trouble-shoot the problem. If it's only on new games then the upgraded graphics card would be a big boost.

The SSD is also a great suggestion for general performance improvement, and a clean install would allow you to wipe away any apps or other detritus that have gathered over the years.
