Hi,

I haven't been able to get to the bottom or the root cause of an issue I have been having. Over the last year I have gotten slown downs and fps drops in games. When gaming on any game regardless of what game it may be. I get 10 to 15 second slow downs where it begins to lag and I get a large fps drop sometimes even up to 100fps. After it goes away I regain my FPS and once again perfectly fine to game. Sometimes it will happen after 30 minutes of gaming, sometimes it happens after only a few hours.

I have tested both my CPU and Graphics card for 24 hours and both have not given me errors or any high temperatures. I do notice my GPU usage drops during this time if that helps.

System:
Gtx 1070 gigabyte windforce x3
4670k 4.3ghz v1.25
H100i cpu cooler
Vertex 4 128gb SSD
Various hard drives
Maximus hero vi
16gb Fury X 1866mhz
EVGA 600 B1, 80+ BRONZE 600W,

Any suggestions to test out what I can do to get more information to find the cause is welcome. Most of the time my computer runs great and I get great FPS.

How are you testing your CPU and GPU for 24 hours?

We can't consider your temperatures fine, if you don't tell us what they are, both before and after loading, and especially what the temperatures are when you are experiencing the performance issues. Heat is often the cause of performance issues, when CPUs overheat in gaming, they throttle and frame rates take a whopping nose dive. There is more demanding software than Prime95, so if that's what you're using to test your temps, you may be underestimating your max temps.

I usually go with HWMonitor myself. It's light, easy to read and understand, and you can run it from a folder if you download the .ZIP version, so no need to install anything. It logs high, low, and current temps, plus voltages, fan speeds, and usage percentages. Generally this should be enough to see if something is getting too hot.

On the other hand, if you want a nice graph, having an H100i, you should have the Corsair utility installed. That should be sufficient also, if you are looking at temps over time. The graph will grab any temps before during and after you experience the slowdown. You should be able to exit the game, or Alt+Tab from it during the slow-down and see what the graphs tell you.

As far as testing, do what you've been doing already. No need to do anything out of the ordinary. If your symptoms are reproducible, just do what it takes to reproduce them while you have some temp monitoring going on.
