System Specs:
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU: Intel i7-4930 @ 4.2 GHz with Corsair H100i
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth X79
RAM: 16 GB G.Skill Ripjaws Z 4x4 1866 MHz, 9-10-9-28
PSU: EVGA Supernova 1300 G2
Drives: 1 TB WD Black 7200 RPM(Storage Drive), 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO (primary)
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080 Xtreme Gaming

The problem I'm facing has plagued me for the past four months basically. At random times, not even every day, just absolutely at random on any given day at any time, with the computer either in use or idle, the computer will just go to a black screen on me. This isn't just the graphics driver crashing either, because the computer fails to respond completely at this point. Sound is lost, all control is lost period, and the screen remains black while all of the peripherals, keyboard and mouse, remain fully lit so it obviously isn't sleeping or hibernating at random. I have absolutely no idea how to fix this or if it even is a fixable issue at this point. And before it is asked, yes, several different graphics drivers were tried also just in case, and DDU was used in their deletion and reinstallation.

try updating MB bios if you had not done that already make sure you are on the latest version, don't run any overclock settings etc see if that solves the issue,disable c state in bios, do a fresh windows installation with the only latest drivers install, it will be a step by step component swap after that to test what is going on.

Hi Kain,

Since you have update graphic drivers and still its the same issue, I suggest you to check in safe mode. Let us confirm whether it is hardware or software issue. Its better to remove all the temp files as the system hangs abruptly.
In Run command, type "temp" and delete all the files from the folder. Again type "%temp%" in Run command and delete the files. This will increase the efficiency of the OS. Observe the PC and check whether the issue occurs again or not.

@aligwashington

The motherboard is at the absolute latest bios of 4801, and has also been tried previously with 4701, nothing new has been released in a couple years at this point. Running no overclocks was done when I first put it together four months ago and I used it like that for a week with this problem happening, C states are always disabled when I run this overclocked, and a fresh install of Windows has been done twice at this point.

@Andrea Mathew

It would be very hard to check this in safe mode. The problems are fairly inconsistent and can range from a week with no issue to only a day with no issues at random, it would be hard keeping it constantly in safe mode as this computer is used regularly for several hours day to day and the limits of safe mode would be an issue there.

check your M/B to see if it have any leaked capacitors they usually show an oily residue , try a different GPU to confirm its not a GPU problem as few 1080's had some crazy issues, my tech finger is pointing to the motherboard with some sort of problem.

@Andrea Mathew

It can happen in the presence of any application. It'll happen if I leave the computer alone overnight even with a fresh restart, it could happen in the middle of doing just about anything after several days of being on without restarting even, it seems to be tied to absolutely nothing specific software-wise, just a random occurrence.

The system is definitely not overheating either, with no measurable parts of the system passing the upper 60s even under full load.

Welp, about a day after my last post on this thread, I started getting the nvlddmkm error which seems to be an often occurrence with Nvidia lately. However, this is actually the first time since all of these issues started that it has showed up in Event Viewer. So I went and got the newest drivers, DDU'd and installed the new ones, and I stopped getting the nvlddmkm error and my black screening in general stopped for a few more days...but has started up again with no error message at all in Event Viewer as it had been for the past few months.
