As the title states. Occasionally when I reboot my computer, my BIOS will reset itself back to factory default settings and I have to reload my saved configuration back. To give you some info, when my system is on, I experience no issues while idle, playing intense video games, rendering, etc. you name it. Currently, my CPU is overclocked to 4.5GHz and and the core voltage is set to 1.37v. I know it's rather high for this frequency, but I was unfortunately still hitting WATCHDOG errors when running benchmarks at 1.355v and overall stability was debatable at 1.36v. Fortunately, my CPU temperatures have never exceeded 65 degrees. Anyway, this occasional reboot issue has happened for months, only since overclocking my CPU. Again, this does not occur after every reboot, only sometimes.

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P [BIOS update F5]
CPU: Intel i5-6600k - [OC @ 4.5GHz]
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 - (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 [XMP enabled]

At this point, I'm a bit lost. Is there a reason this is happening? Is this hurting any components in my system? Should I just ignore it and reload my configuration each time it happens? Do I still need to raise my CPU voltage? Appreciate any further help.

Solution
CMOS battery failure will make the BIOS reset after reboot. Try changing the CMOS battery. Clean the RAM modules and RAM slots if the restart problem continues.
