Yes you're right. GTX 1060 4GB is nothing, but let me explain my situation.
I'm building a 1080p gaming pc and I believe that no game would require more than 3GB vram @1080. So lets assume that gtx 1060 come with only 4GB of ram instead of 6GB and plz don't recommend it for just being a vram monster.
I've seen a couple of benchmarks between rx480 "8GB“ & GTX1060 6GB @1080p. Rx results really satisfied me especially at dx12 games. Now since rx480 4GB is not a cut-down version so would it be a better option over GTX1060 6GB? You know it's cheaper (-70$ in Egypt) and I've heard that rx480 will age better and have better dx12/vulkan support!
I'm totally noob at GPUs and really need to know your opinion.

So you're saying the RX 480 4GB is $70 cheaper than the GTX 1060 6GB? If so i would definitely go with that for the money you are saving. The GTX 1060 6GB is slightly stronger on average (although you are correct, in most DX12 and Vulkan titles the RX 480 can get a lead) but for $70 less the RX 480 4GB is a good buy in my opinion. I don't suppose you have the RX 580 available? As for the VRAM, 4GB is a good amount for 1080p at the current time, i'd find it hard to recommend 3GB or less in most cases but 4GB isn't super ahead of 1080p, there are games which can exceed it but most are only when cranked to high/ultra settings or are just not optimised yet (Star Citizen is an example, pushes 4-5GB at 1080p for me). Hope this helps :)

Thanks, bro for your swift reply. Yeah it's 50~70$ cheaper! And rx 580 isn't available yet here. I've seen a guy in TPU saying that he has managed to flash rx480 into rx580! What do you think about that? Is that safe or even possible?
About vram, External programs can only report ram allocation not how much it's actually using. But yes as you have said 4GB is good enough for 1080p

That's a great deal then, flashing an RX 480 to 580 is indeed possible but it depends on the card whether it will work or not as far as i know. I know someone who did it on their 480 but they ended up reverting it back because the card had temp problems which was natural since the flash forced it to run at 580 clocks speeds which it wasn't designed for. However, this was probably because it was a reference cooler which isn't great to begin with. I suggest you read up on it before trying anything just to be safe. Here is an article on this > http://wccftech.com/amd-rx-480-can-upgraded-rx-580-bios-flash/.

There's no such thing as a 4GB 1060, so you either mean the 1060 3GB - which is in fact a cut down card and not a full GTX 1060, or you mean the 6GB 1060.

The 1060 vs 480/580 is a pretty close call, but for sure when the price difference is that high I'm 100% with @Cro5513Y, no way the GTX 1060 (whether 3 or 6GB) is worth that much more.

Personally I wouldn't bother flashing the 480. The 480/580 is the identical GPU anyway, the latter is just an overclocked version. Provided the 480 you get has decent cooling and more than the 2x6 Pin or 1x8 Pin power connectors, you should be able to OC to pretty close to a 580 anyway, without the risks associated with a BIOS flash.

I think he was just listing the 6GB 1060 as 4GB for comparison so we don't base the choice off the VRAM. Quote > "Yes you're right. GTX 1060 4GB is nothing, but let me explain my situation.

Okay I think I will go with that deal. Thanks, bro for your time I really appreciate it. It worth mentioning that I'm planning to mod my corsair spec 03 to get a 120mm side fan cooling the gpu but yeah I need to educate myself about flashing and overclocking! Thanks for the link.
