Is a GTX 1060 worth the upgrade?

My birthday is in 2 days and I asked my parents for a 1050 (they said I can only get something up to $180 AUD cos were poor af) and it keeps sounding worse and worse as I spoil my birthday by googling benchmarks. Should I sell it, make a bit more money and buy a 1060 or just overclock it and use it until a new game comes out that is just too unplayable to handle? The most demanding I will probably play is bf1 or doom and I'm happy to turn down settings to at least medium, and 1080p isn't something I really care for and my monitors refresh rate I don't actually know but I know it sucks and is less than 60 Hz so is it worth it?

if you dont have at least a 1080p monitor then its pointless to get a 1060...


what monitor resolution do you have?

Saying I am poor was a bit of a joke but meh thanks. Btw turns out my refresh rate is 75hz does that make a difference either? I doubt it. It is nice to know it is perfect for my resolution so thanks again.
Edit: Looking back, saying I was poor does sound very spoilt considering there are poorer people out there who need help. 1st world problems lol.
