I have no idea where this is coming from, its not an external sound, its a half second high pitched peep my heahphones will make at random times. Cruising the internet or playing a video game.

I have a asrock z77 motherboard with i7-3770k cpu, and gtx 970 - - OS is Windows 7

Some days it will not make the noise, some days it will happen every 45 second to a minute then stop. Then come back half hour later. Then a few days with no noise.

I cant even think of a source of it, i assume its software but what?

Try another set of headphones to see if the peep continues with your existing computer.

Try your headphones on another computer or audio device.

The objective being to determine if peep is headphones or computer related.

Then other steps can be taken to further narrow down the cause.

Watch for patterns: may be some static discharge. Happens more with cooler dry air. Or certain clothing that build up a charge and then goes to ground via the headphones.

And it could be software related. Use Task Manager to keep an eye on what all is running at any given time.

You may notice the the peeps occur only when one particular app, process, or service is running.
