Hi there.

For the past year I've been using a crappy ultra cheap mouse (Omega OM05) without a mouse pad and a few days ago I decided to buy a new one. This Omega one had terrible accuracy.

I bought the Trust GXT 111 mouse and even though it feels way better, it still doesn't feel very smooth. Especially when I'm playing an fps game and I have to move very slowly, I have to set it to the lowest dpi otherwise it'll just kind of jump instead of smoothly slide.

Does that happen because I don't have a mouse pad? Will buying one make things better?

It feels weird to me because the surface of my desk has always been perfect for all the mice I've had. Could it have suddenly become bad?

Thanks.

I have had this issue! I have used cheap mice before and not really had a problem not using a mat, but since upgrading to an Asus gaming mouse i have had to buy a mat. (good practice to always use a mat anyway) The accuracy was terrible without. Mouse pointer would jump all over the screen, and no tweaking would get it working properly. Since buying the mat, all problems have gone, and the mouse is now silky smooth.
I think it is down to the improved technology and accuracy on the gaming mouse, and upon closer inspection, it seems the optical tracking light is slightly dimmer, and so needs a proper surface to respond correctly.
I would deffo recommend a mat.

Thank you both for the quick answer. In what price range would you say are the best mouse pads? Can I find a good one below 10 dollars? I've had my eyes on the Sharkoon 1337 one. What do you think?
