Hey everybody, I have been getting the BSOD code 0xc000021a for about two weeks now and haven't been able to fix it. I am running Windows 8.1 pro on a custom built pc with the error starting after a windows update. I have tried nearly everything, even by purchasing easy RE for £30 yet the problem still persists. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Solution
Bug Check 0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED - The STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED bug check has a value of 0xC000021A. This means that an error has occurred in a crucial user-mode subsystem.

Cause: This error occurs when a user-mode subsystem, such as WinLogon or the Client Server Run-Time Subsystem (CSRSS), has been fatally compromised and security can no longer be guaranteed. In response, the operating system switches to kernel mode. Microsoft Windows cannot run without WinLogon or CSRSS. Therefore, this is one of the few cases where the failure of a user-mode service can shut down the system.

is there anything on C drive you want to rescue? try making this on another PC...

do you have a win 8 installer? https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows8 if you don't

I don't think there is an easy answer to this one, as error shows, if you missing or have corrupted versions of those 2 files, Win 8 won't work. I would be temped to run a reset,

change boot order so USB is first, hdd second
boot from installer
on screen after languages, choose repair this PC, not install.
choose troubleshoot
choose reset this PC
should be two choices, keep files/settings (only files kept are in library folders like documents, music, videos, pictures)(Settings = logins) or wipe it all (takes 8 back to how it was when you first got it)

Thanks Colif for the quick response. I have copied the whole partition to a USB and do have important programs on my computer. Currently my pc is trying to boot up the windows and is currently is doing the spinning circle for about 2 hours now, should I have wait for it to finish?

yes. it takes you back to basic install, you have to get all the patches again. I think there is something like 200 but there is a short cut. Think you install this update (KB3138615) and it reduces the time it takes to get the rest
