Currently have an Asus PRIME Z270-P motherboard in my build.

Question is two fold
1) Would a decent wifi dongle provide good internet coverage?
2) Would a new motherboard with built in wifi be better than a USB adapter? (benefit being I could get a motherboard that can support over clocking too

Can anyone suggest which is the better solution?
If new motherboard is better option, which one would be a good choice. Mid range, not top of the range, budget max $200.

PC is in the living room, quite far from the router, plus there are no spare slots left in the router, hence going for the wifi option. PC will be around 4 meters (12ft) from router, internet will be used for downloading and maybe gaming. Internet speed now is around 48MBps.

Thanks in advance

Your Z270 motherboard fully supports overclocking.

An ethernet switch for <$50 to add additional wired ports is a much better implementation than WIFI. If you can't get an ethernet cable to your PC, try powerline network adapters.
