So i just put a kraken g12 on my r9 290x. everything was working fine, but when i went to stress test the card, my temps shot up so i figured the heatsink didnt have good contact with the gpu, so i tightened the screws holding it on. after putting it back into my computer, i have found that no display outputs from my mobo or gpu work when my gpu has power connectors plugged in. ive tried loosening the scews a bit, but it didnt work. how do i fix this?

Solution

No, you can try another card in your system with the same power draw, that should rule out the power supply and motherboard if it works. If another card does work, it will be very likely the card was bad.

I do not have another system to test it in, are there any other ways to test if the card is broken?

yes, there is a small fan which cools the vrms, and it spins when the card is plugged in.

Both of these did nothing, but i took the cooler off and noticed a capacitor that broke off. could this broken capacitor cause my gpu to not work and if so, how can i fix it?

Of course a broken capacitor can cause the card not to work, how to fix it, solder it back on. It may not be easy though because of the small parts and if the connections to the board are bad it will make it even harder.

This, its very easy to replace a capacitor. Perhaps bring it to a professional if you are uncomfortable doing so.
