boxed= with cpu cooler+ pre applied thermal paste+ longer warranty
tray= no cpu cooler + less warranty.

If the CPU ships with a cooler, the paste is applied to the cooling solution already. If they don't ship with a cooler, there is no included thermal paste. If you buy a 3rd party cooler, many have the paste pre-applied, but some just include paste for you to apply yourself. You can also buy 3rd party thermal paste to use instead of any pre-applied or included paste.
True to a point. IF the CPU ships with a cooler, it will usually have pre-applied thermal paste. Some CPUs don't ship with a cooler, and thus, do not ship with any paste. Your warranty and boxed/unboxed info is correct.
Retail: Boxed - Some include coolers, some don't Thermal paste (usually pre-applied) included with those that do. Longest warranty, usually around 3 years. Includes paperwork/manual.
Tray: (Bulk typical, but can be purchased individually) Do not include coolers for ANY model, and do not include thermal paste, box, or any paperwork/manuals. Shortest warranty, typically 30 days, but maybe as long as 90.
I've had success with both. (My Tray purchase still running 7 years later of near-constant 365/24/7 powered on (AMD Phenom II X4 955BE, OC'd to 3.7 Ghz))
Unfortunately, I see no reason to go tray now-days as the Tray chips are just as expensive, if not more expensive, than their boxed counterparts.
