Hello this is my first question on Tom`s Hardware I have the following problem that I have been looking for a solution here, but none of them helped me because my situation is specific and rather strange I think.
So I don`t think this created the problem which I am about to mention, but its better to say everything.
I had a problem with my SSD, Kingston 120GB HyperX Fury, It was not booting and I thought It died, long story short, It was not getting enough power from the PSU so I just rearranged the cables and now it works like before, no problem at all, like nothing happened.
Right after I did that, all of sudden my audio is not working,I have headphones I went and checked the playback devices, the one that was there before "speakers" on which my headphones worked, is gone there is only a AMD HDMI Output-AMD High definition audio device.
And it says its not pluged in. Now you would think that something happened with my HDMI cable or drivers etc. But the thing is I don`t have a HDMI cabel at all, or a HDMI port at all on my Monitor AND the GPU.
I am using a VGA cable, I have another DVI output on the GPU that I am not using because the Monitor dose not have a DVI input just a VGA.
I tried uninstalling the current AMD High definition device and reinstalling it again, nothing happened. I also tried Realtek that Is mentioned in every answer of similar problems that some people had, but again, nothing hapened. Again the same situation.
I do know that its possible to click the "set default" but it dose not allow me to do that, it is grayed out, when I check and un-check also the show disabled devices, nothing shows up.
I doubt that it haves anything to do with me resolving the SSD issues but just wanted to mention it
That is all, thanks in advance, hope that my English is good enough.
Help is appreciated very much.

Thank you!

P.S I tried with another pair of headphones too (one Konig and another Sennheiser) and again nothing.

I'm sure you are correct in thinking that the SSD has nothing to do with this problem. Moreover, oddly, re-installing a driver also is not your issue.

The root of this is that Windows can use only ONE audio output device at a time, no matter how many are installed. Thus in Windows there is a place where you can specify which of your several possible audio output devices you want Windows to actually use, and I'm guessing that somehow that got changed, because your system used to work.

At bottom left click open the menu and choose Control Panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices or something similar. Click on the Audio tab. There are three rectangular boxes there, each for selecting the default device used by Windows for a particular task. Look at the one for Sound Playback. It has a rectangular chooser window, and you should click on the down-arrow at its end. This will show you all the possible audio output devices in your system. My guess is it was set to the AMD High-Def audio device, and you want to change that to the Realtek device that is built into your mobo. Do that, click on the "Apply" button at bottom, and back out. Now try your audio playback with your earphones plugged into the "normal" place they use, and it should work.

Hello
First of all thank you for your answer, I checked what you said and I only have one box, if we are talking about the same thing.
I have a picture down below what I have in sounds.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks for that. I think I'm a little confused because you spoke of both a AMD High Definition Audio system and a Realtek system, so I though you had both a mobo audio chip by Realtek and a separate system in the video card. But re-reading I now think you do NOT have an on-board audio system. There is only the system in your video card. Is that right?

To help further, post back this info.
1. What maker and exact model number is you mobo?
2. what maker and exact model number is your video card?
3. Where are your headphones plugged in - into a front headphone jack, or into a rear panel jack? If it's in the rear, is that jack on the mobo's panel of jacks, or is it one on the video card bracket?

Since the problem happened when you were changing connections to fix the SSD problem, maybe by mistake (and without noticing) you loosened an internal connector for the cable to the front panel of jacks. Could have been a cable that plugs into the mobo or into a header on the video card. Check for that possibility.
