We have recently had building work done to our house with an extension/annex we are renting out as a seperate flat/holiday home. We have had internal wiring all done new and that includes an ethernet socket in said flat (which corresponds to one of 4 sockets on the wall by the main router and phoneline). The Router is a fair distance away from the guest rooms, so what would be the best way for me to utilise the socket in order to extend the Wifi/Internet to the future guests?

Solution
Best solution is to have renter come up with their own connection.

You have 2 issues.
1) Renter using your internet connection means that any illegal activity they do is on you
2) Without a higher end router that can create a separate VLAN or at least custom firewall rules will allow renter to interact with any of your devices on your network.

If you dont care about either one then take a cheap router, configure it as an access point and connet via ethernet cord (in 2nd routers LAN port) back to your mian router.

If you care about #2 but not #1 then you will need a medium end router or at least one with dd-wrt/tomato firmware.

If you care about #1 then the renter need to get their own internet connection. You can capture logs on...
I would tell the renter to plug up ethernet or get his own internet. There are many ways depending on the hardware. An old router can be used as an access point if there is no way for the renter to get their own.
