Email automatically D/L and puts all mail in the inbox on the PC into trash.

I am using Windows 7 SP1. The email programs I use are Thunderbird and SeaMonkey Ver. 2.46 My wife and I have separate email addresses that are forwarded to our account on Comcast/Xfinity.

I have all the settings (that I am able to find/access) set to retain the email on the server.

My additional problems with the email are:

If I delete an email from my pc it is deleted from the server.

The emails are not kept on the server.

I feel that this is a server problem, however Comcast/Xfinity can not correct the problem and I can not access the settings needed on the server.

Solution
Are you using IMAP or POP3 as the mail settings on the computer? About putting the inbox mail into trash, that could be a rule that was setup, check those.

Email on the PC does not really take up that much room, if you want to keep the email, don't delete it. If you don't need the email, it should not matter if it's also deleted from the server. If you want to keep a cleaner Inbox, set a sub-folder with Old Emails, move emails you don't want to see there or setup archiving to move the emails. If you delete and email, you no longer want it. If you want it even as an archive, don't delete it.

My mother used to keep her "saved emails" in the Deleted folder, she would delete them but since the deleted folder did not empty she was for some reason using that to keep her old emails. And one day the ISP cleaned up the email and wiped her deleted folder. Which is where you keep email you no longer want so of course there is no issues with wiping it. Unless for some strange reason you keep "needed" emails in the Deleted folder LOL. It's like the Dilbert cartoon where he put his important papers sideways on top of the trashcan so the cleaners knew they were not to be thrown out LOL

If you want to retain your emails on several devices without them being removed from the server or downloaded to your computer fully, use IMAP.

my boss at my last job did that too. He's deleted was really his "read" e-mails but not necessarily his ready to be deleted e-mails. Very annoying.

I think people that don't understand how to setup folders and rules just use the trash bin as a regular folder because it's just one click away.
