Upgrading CPU for older gaming computer

I'm looking to upgrade my gaming computer as I haven't touched the hardware specs in probably 4 or 5 years.
Current hardware:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3
RAM: 12GB

So what's a good CPU for $200 or less? I've heard good things about the AMD Ryzen but I don't know enough about it to decide.

$200 won't allow you to make a meaningful Upgrade. Save up a bit longer you'd need at least $350 to do anything positive, closer to 500 to really help

Upgrade the GPU later. You can drop settings a tad to add fps if you wish with a weaker gpu, a weak cpu can't be helped.

New platforms use DDR4 memory, dont work with "old" DDR3 modules so thats why the memmory is listed.
