Computer low on memory, after adding 2nd 1080

I recently installed a 2nd GTX 1080, but now most of my games perform terribly and I keep getting errors about low memory, I currently have 8GB or ram, does SLI really affect Ram usage?

Your gpu is constantly exchanging data with your cpu and ram. A single 1080 has 8GB RAM. Adding a second 1080 you have the RAM of your gpus to 16GB(not sure if it is added fully or if you get a percent of it) . So you can understand that your system memory is bottlenecking your computer.
