Hello forum people! I'm looking to get the best bang for my buck and I found a i5 3370k for $100 plus ram 16gb $30 is this a good option over my current Pentium g4400,4gb ram?

Solution
Update your BIOS if you haven't already, then get an i5-7400 or -7500 (7600K only if you got the cash for an additional CPU heatsink). You'll want to add another 4GB of RAM (assuming you have 1x4GB) or even replace it and get 2x8GB asap, as that will probably limit your performance heavily.

Going from Skylake and H110 chipset down to Ivy Bridge is just a waste of money, as future upgrades are going to be close to impossible on the 1155 socket platform.

Going for a modern i5 is going to last much longer, and you might even be able to upgrade to Coffee Lake CPUs in the future, without the need of replacing mobo & RAM again.
I assume you mean 3570K and 3370K is a typo?

The 3570K is a few generations older than the pentium, but with higher clocks, an unlocked multiplier (allows overclocking with the right cooling and motherboard) and - critically - four cores instead of two, it's definitely the faster CPU.

Does the 3570K come with a motherboard though? Because it will NOT be compatible with the socket 1151 board you're currently using for your Pentium. The 3570K needs a socket 1155 board, ideally a Z77 motherboard.

No it doesn't but I have found one for $105 but also I have found a z170a Ali gigabyte refurbished for $83.80.

Not compatible I'm afraid. That's an LGA 1151 board for 6th Gen intel CPUs. You need a socket 1155 for 3rd Gen boards (like the Z77 I referred to earlier, though H77 or B75 boards will also work, as well as earlier Z68, H61, H67 and P67 boards as long as their BIOSes are updated to versions which support 3rd Gen CPUs - sometimes called "Ivy Bridge").

Ok but the reason I chose that was is it worth going to ivy bridge because I can honestly upgrade my Pentium.

Thank you @ZRace. This makes perfect sense.

What's your budget OP? Because getting at least 8GB of RAM and a new current gen CPU will be much more cost-effective than trying piece together old tech.
