Is there a big difference between an i3 4130 and a true quad core CPU for 1080p gaming?

Hello,
Lately due to budget restraints I had to sell my i5 4690k and GTX 970. I got a used i3 4130 and a GTX 1050Ti 4gb new. I have 8gb of ram and an ssd/hdd combo. I am running this off a regular 1080p monitor primarily for gaming. I am also doing other things like MS Word and web browsing. But my question is - for gaming do I notice a big difference leaving an i5?

I know that the GTX 1050ti is not as good as my former 970 but I am soon going to upgrade to an i7/1070 combo anyway or 1060 so that negates the worry but for the present I am wondering if my i3 will bottleneck any of the pascal graphics cards. Obviously I won't pair it with the GTX 1080Ti but say I use a GTX 1060 or 1070 would that bottleneck my CPU? I plan to upgrade to 16gb of ram as well. I know my CPU has hyperthreading and simulated 4 cores but I am concerned that I do not get the full benefit of my GPU because of the dual core i3.

I am on a tight budget so for now I cannot upgrade possibly only in the summer when I stop studying and get a full time job but I am wondering if my games will be fine if I manage to get a GTX 1060 3GB model instead of the 6gb. I don't need more than 3 gb for 1080p gaming I doubt since I am not upgrading my monitor anytime soon. I wanted to upgrade to Kaby Lake eventually or wait for the i9 CPU line up but I will probably get a cheap i5 and gtx 1060.

So far the only major drawback to my set up is Mass Effect Andromeda which struggles to maintain a solid 30fps on Medium/High settings. I have to lower the resolution to get a solid 60fps which I don't really like. I will play it on Low settings for now but was wondering if I just upgrade the graphics card if my CPU will bottleneck it or not. Plus do I need a 6gb video card for 1080p gaming or will 3gb be just fine? I have seen some used 3gb 1060's go on sale on ebay for a reasonable price hence my question.

P.S. I would rather stick with Nvidia for now because of drivers and software and so on since I will upgrade to a 1070 in the future anyway.

Sorry for the wall of text and many thanks in advance! :)
