It's very difficult to diagnose that problem if, as you indicate, there was no problem with ANY non-defective HDD connected to ANY of the SATA II ports/connectors in the past, and now not a single motherboard SATA II port/connector will detect a non-defective SATA HDD connected to that port. And you've made CERTAIN that all "wires" (as you call them), i.e., the data & power connectors, are all properly connected/secure, right?
I'm assuming there's no BIOS setting that would allow the user to DISABLE any of those SATA II ports. But carefully check your user manual for BIOS settings that somehow might impact (disable) those SATA II connectors.
It's conceivable that you may be dealing with a defective MB at least with respect to failed SATA II data connectors, possibly caused by a power glitch/brownout (even a minor one that might have gone unnoticed) or simply component failure.
