Hi,

Lately I've been doing some reasearch on i7700k processors and overheating, and I came across some posts on intel forums which say that running memory higher than 2400mhz might cause the CPU to overhheat and cause some instability.

Now I have my Corsair Vengeance(2x8) set at 3000mhz with XMP from bios.
Someone suggested me to downclock the memory while adjusting the timings to lower values to increase buffer speed.

Website of corsair says that the timings are 15 17 17 39 for my ram. I'm wondering if it is possible to try out different timings and make them work.

Solution
As long as the XMP profile hasn't changed the BCLK it really shouldn't affect CPU temperature or stability.

Well, maybe if there's less of a bottleneck in memory the CPU temperature could increase as the CPU was active more of the time, but that's a good thing for performance.

Anyway - the timings of 15-17-17-39 correspond to 10-11.3-11.3-26 nanoseconds. If you then set the memory to another speed, eg. DDR4-2400, you can then multiply by the speed and divide by 2000 to get the equivalent timings. So at 2400 that would be 12-14-14-32 (rounding up).

I'll try that out thank you. Is there a website where I can get more detailed information on those timing calculations ?

Additional info.

I turned off x.m.p and set the ram speed to 2400. But unless I activate "memory try it" feature it doesn't let me play with ram timings. And it seems like the lowest speed preset for memory try it is 2666.

I set my ram speed to 2666 and enabled that memory try it thing. Set the timings manually to 13 15 15 30 and it's been working well. Could try to tighten the timings but I don't think I need to.
