Been having problems with my gaming for about a month. Completely stumped as to what the problem is.

Thank you advance for the help.

Ever since I downloaded the Creators Update back in the end of last night my computer has just shit the bed when it's come to gaming and I'm at about my wit's end. My games ran like crap and nothing I could do would fix it. I tried reverting to the previous build I had (Anniversary Update). Nothing. I tried doing a complete clean install of Windows Anniversary Update (missed my solid state). Nothing. Tried resetting my computer to factory settings (still on Anniversary Update, did this yesterday). Nothing.

My fans kick in when I try to play Overwatch. Temps go mid-high 80 degrees C (idk if that's bad?) and I can get like, 70fps on low settings with bad frame drops every so often. The game used to run okay on high and very well on medium. I sprayed some canned air in my fan ports yesterday (had this comp for a year, never cleaned them before but I also didn't have this problem until a month ago) but it didn't help.

I really have no idea what the problem is. I thought it was software- or OS-related before but now that I've done 2 clean installs (the most recent on both drives) I can't really rule out hardware anymore can I?

Specs:
Acer Aspire V15 Nitro
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M
CPU: Intel 530 HD
16GB Ram
I'm on Win10 build 14393 (Anniversary Update)

I should mention this is what I get in my NVIDIA control panel. https://imgur.com/a/TerWC

Hi, I bought this laptop off newegg a year ago so it's not like I put it together. Taking it apart is sort of a last resort because I don't really know how to handle the innards but I'll do it if I need to.

When I turn on MSI Afterburner it doesn't seem to indicate my fan speed. But I can hear them chugging away (something I didn't really notice until yesterday but might be a symptom).

I mentioned Afterburner because I didn't quite realize that you're on a laptop; I was saying to check the GPU fan speed, and your laptop doesn't have any dedicated GPU fans. Also, laptops are able to handle slightly higher temperatures than desktops, so 80 isn't quite as unusual; still sounds a bit high, though. You should take it to a computer shop to have it disassembled if you don't feel comfortable taking it apart yourself. I don't like taking apart laptops either.

Yeah my bad for not outright stating it is a laptop. The main problem is I don't know what to look for. My brother is home from summer break and he works tech support but he is only tier 1 and says he doesn't know much about PCs (my family is obsessed with Apple so they know more about Macs). But I'll open it up with him maybe.

The main problem is that I don't necessarily know what to look for.

Repair shop, I want to avoid if possible because I'm looking at buying a car very soon and the expense will kill me in many ways. But at the same time I bought this thing for $1200 only a year ago so I want to make sure it's done right if I don't know what I'm doing.
