I have a macbook pro mid 2009 and I recently wiped it clean. It was running os x Yosemite at the time. When I try and reinstall os x, it makes me install el captian(it doesnt make a difference what os x is installed) an error occurs and tells me to try running the application again. Im not sure what the problem is.

Solution
Check the date setting on the laptop. Strangely enough, I've come across macs that won't install if the date is off. In the installer, look in the menubar for Terminal and enter the command "date." If it's off enter "date mmddhhmmyy" - the first two m's for month in 2-digit format, then date, hour. minute and year (all as two digits in one long string).
