I have been having issues with sudden fps drops in games and now in unigine superposition.
Specs
Z170ar
6600k 4.7ghz 1.36v llc6
16gb patriot viper oc'd to 2666mhz
Windows 10
Wd black 750gb 7200rpm
Zotac 970 amp extreme core.
First off the issue happens only when overclocking(now with bios mod)with msi afterburner or even having it installed.

Pc had a r9 295x2 and in the syria part of the benchmark (Rott)it would drop to 15 fps still at 99% gpu usage when running afterburner. The 2 pcie cables got hot so I used a splitter to use all 4 into the card and it ran fine but was sold due to crossfire sucking
Then a $20 660ti was put in and whenever msi afterburner was even installed Far cry primal would crash after 15 minutes
Then the current Zotac amp extreme core gtx 970 was put in (yes ddu latest drivers) and after 15 minutes of primal I go from 60 fps to 15 fps and it does this every game restart.If I uninstall afterburner it works mint.
Now I've been bios modding the 970 and even without msi afterburner(bios modding to lock in oc fan speed so i dont need afterburner) I get a drop to 15 fps 99% usage in superposition when the books jump off the table.but If I rerun it the drop goes away.
I'm guessing the voltage controller on the 970 since i had to bump it a little from stock charts to hit 1557mhz or psu/mobo but why did the r9 do it too I dunno any ideas?
Edit I just flashed it back to stock and it still does it but, if I try to run MSI afterburner(riva tuner) to look for voltage limit warnings it doesn't FPS Drop In The Benchmark anymore I have no idea what's going on
