gtx 1070 vs gtx 1080 for 1440p at 144hz

Hi all,

I currently have a rig with an i3-6100 and a gtx 1060. If I want to play Overwatch and similar games on max settings at 1440p at 144hz with no performance dips, is the 1080 overkill compared to the 1070? Also, is my CPU a bottleneck in this instance?

1070 will not manage 1440p 144hz just fine at all. If you are prepared to tinker with settings, then sure you might get 100+ fps in most games, but hell, that monitor will use whatever you can throw at it, if you have the money get the stronger card. Also keep it mind anything under 120fps feels completely AIDS on 144hz monitors, You need to be able to keep that minimum fps

The GTX 1080 is a luxury but not necessary because the GTX 1070 can more than manage 1440p at 144hz just fine, unless you really want to be future proof for like 3 years or so.

also if you have the money then go for it mate. GTX 1080 all the way lol
