I recently got an older gaming computer from my friend. He was upgrading as he went along but time passed and he ended up getting a newer computer.

I currently have his old build:
Thermaltake V9 black case
T-Power X58 motherboard
Intel i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
GeForce 550ti
Thermaltake RX-850 power supply

I don't really want to go through the hassle of selling and building a brand new computer. Would it be stupid to save the case, cpu, and new memory sticks I purchased and then buy a motherboard, gpu, and SSD?

Budget is probably under $400 if possible.

Mainly play LOL and CSGO, i would like to go up to a 144Hz monitor as well.

Thank you

I'm on an X58 MB myself with a i7-950 @ 3 GHz. Paired with a 7970, I feel I'm good until the end of the year before I upgrade.

If I were you I would just get a good price on a 1070 and get an affordable CPU cooler (Cryorig M9i), and OC the CPU to 3 GHz or more. Then get a better CPU, MB, and RAM when you can afford it.

You could easily do it for $400. It's getting common to see a 1070 on promo or MIR for $380 or so, and the M9i is commonly sold for $20 and outperforms the Hyper 212 EVO.
