Which motherboard?
Personally I would get something in the 3200mhz region, don't bother with 3400mhz as AMD have specified they don't have the dividers to support it on Ryzen, however there is a very big update on the way from AMD which I read the other day is opening Ryzen up to support upto 4000mhz ram.

I'm currently looking at MSI B350 boards. The reviews seem to be some of the best and I don't see the point in going up to X370 as I don't thinkI'll be doing any multi GPU work anytime soon.
Great choice to be honest, Ive had the ASUS B350m, Gigabyte B350m and the MSI B350m mortar, im currently on the MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon.
The Gigabyte was a load of rubbish, I wouldnt recommend that to anyone, the whole thing just felt like an after thought.
The ASUS board had a great bios, but the lack of VRM heatsink really wasnt good.
The MSI Board had it all, heatsinks and a great bios.
Just brought the MSI X370 to prove a point, and see if it really was any better than my MSI B350, the answer to that is nope, the VRMs run 10oC cooler, but only under extreme full load, everday use they are the same temps as the B350, but thats it, oh and it comes with some flashy disco lights lol, supports SLi which i'll never use.
Next, when it becomes available I want to get the ASUS Strix B350-F, like the look of it, and just want to give it a try out.
However, down to you initial question, every board ive used so far, I have used the same kit of RAM in it and the same CPU and always had the same results, R7 1700 @ 3.9ghz, and 16gb G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3200mhz CL16, the MSI boards are the only boards that have allowed my ram to run at full speed out of the box.
