I already bought and assembled the rest:

asus prime z270 mobo
i7 7700k (both from microcenter)

16 gigs of ram( got the ones recommended from this site from newegg)

but now my videocard is a bottle neck, it is my old card the radeon 7770 so I should use an upgrade here but to what? yes I'll need a bigger psu than the 430 watts corsair that I have now , here are the vid cards I'm considering, will they work with the mobo I have now, is there something else I should be considering? I can do 200 to 300 or even 400 for the card.

MSI GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GTX 1060 6G OCV1 6GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready ATX Video Card
210$ newegg

MSI GeForce GTX 1060 DirectX 12 GTX 1060 3GT OC 3GB 192-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready ATX Video Card at jet.com

PNY GeForce GTX 1070 8GB XLR8 Gaming Overclocked Edition Graphic...
400$ on amazon

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970 4GB XTREME GAMING OC EDITION
400$ on amazon

Definitely leaning towards the first one on the list, im looking for power efficiency as well as overall performance as well as bang for the buck, and not that interested in a card that is a power hog and overheating

I'm open to other ideas though, including other 400 dollar cards that are future proofed if they aren't total power hogs

I went and got the msi 1060 armor 6 gig from newegg Mostly because I don't think I'll be upgrading for a while anyways, thanks for all your answers

I considered the 1070 but liked the 1060 for the lower power consumption.

the best option is to pick 1070 gtx vid card. it preform well than 970 , 1060 (both). the graphics and the vid card is good for 4k monitors. but u want atleast 600 or 650w SMPS to work that 1070GTX . can i know what SMPS u have?

And GTX 1070 is 256bit ver, so u can get long duration than GTX 1060. 970 also 256bit only but the graphics and preform differs. to know more about GTX 1070 , and 970 check this URL link for there info http://wccftech.com/gtx-1070-1920-cuda-cores/

yes ur right but... if u see here u should see the graphics, performances and duration also. 1070 is higher compare to 1060. if ur trying to buy a small amount budget u can chose 1060
the duration between them differ a lot

1060 - 2yrs 1070- 5-6yrs

so only GTX 1070 is costly compare to 1060. if u see for all round u can buy 1070. if u seeing budget u can buy 1060

see my URL is will show clearly to u

They will all work with your motherboard. Which one to get depends on your resolution, the games you play, and the framerate you need. Overwatch at 1080p/high settings/60 fps means a completely different card than Battlefield 1 at 1440p/Ultra settings/120fps. You should upgrade your power supply to something better than a Corsair CX before you do anything else.

It only has a max wattage power load of 120 watts, I could keep my 430 watt psu for now and still get good overall performance, right?

I'll tinker a little with overclocking but won't overclock much I think

Yes I'm not much of an overclockerbut I'll be too curious about testing out overclocking the cpu and card at least a little.

My main concern is the power drain and boosting my electricity bill 20 bucks a month. The 1070 is probably overkill for my needs, the 1060 for 200$ and the 1070 for 330$ look like my final two choices. I like the elder scrolls games, the grand theft auto games and witcher series and fallout, and will want to play them all on high or highest settings

i will say GTX 1070 bcz it have 20-50(50 some times) fps different compare to 1060. gtx 1070 save ur current 30%. 1060 is also awesome graphic card deign for games. u can choose 1060 also bcz it fix for ur 430 watt SMPS, if u choose 1070 again u should pay some to buy a 550 watt or above SMPS to work it.

but last word is
check the FPS different between them
here is URL

http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1070-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB/3609vs3639

in this u can know all in a summary
FPS for each game
value rating
market selling rate
info of both graphic card

and all over which is good or better for games

after seeing all say which one ur u going to BUY. I m not forcing to buy 1070. ( advance on my side). 1070 have longer duration, more fps, marketing rate is high, 30% current saver compare to 1060.

1060 have little bit shorter duration, little low fps, but it save the current a lot, compare to 1070

1060 6gb is awesome copmare to 1060 3gb and 970

u can buy 1060 6 also

for avg rate u can buy 1060 6gb
for mix rate u can buy 1070 8gb with a SMPS
