Second GPU not Recognized

Hey guys!

So, you might think this question has been answered a dozen times. It hasn't. I have a bit of a unique case. I had a GTX 680 laying around that had been superseded by the 780Ti I have been using a while now. I do a lot of folding at home for Overclock.net, and so I figured I would throw it back in my rig for this purpose. Problem is, it doesn't show up.

I am 99% sure the card works. Least unless I shorted it installing it or somehow broke it putting the stock cooler on after removing the water block. Seems unlikely.

The fan spins, but it doesn't do anything else. Won't show in device manager or anything. Noooo clue what is up.

Normally, I would just switch PCI slots. Problem is, the 780TI is also water cooled, and can't be removed easily enough for me to justify it. I could try pulling it from the slot, but leaving it dangling perhaps :ouch:? Not sure if that is safe.

Or I could dig out an old AM3+ board and my Sempron 145, or perhaps my old Socket 775 setup if you guys think I could find a way to see if the GPU works with that.

This isn't as they say, my first GPU insertion :pt1cable:

I guarantee you that sucker is in there-I pushed on it, I jiggled it, but still no cigar.

It looks and feels like it is popped in (the ASUS locks have that button-ish thing that pops up when the GPU is in. I tried a CMOS reset, no cigar. Tried to reinstall drivers too.

I am going to try removing the 780TI but letting it hang off the CPU waterblock, maybe try to prop it up to take the strain off the motherboard/waterblock. I will leave the 680 in the bottom slot and see if it is detected at all. If it isn't, I will assume the slot is probably dead. This is a board I got with an RMA from ASUS.

Well, I actually managed to keep my 780TI in the watercooling loop and remove it from the top PCI slot while somehow fitting a GTX 680 in behind that. It is amazing how much being too lazy to whip up a system is also a motivator.

Bad news. The 680-it works fine, as I expected, and hoped. I am glad because I had a bit of sentimental attachment to the GPU. So here is the bad: there is a problem with the second PCI slot it seems. The board won't post with the 680 in that slot, but will with it in slot 1. I assume this means a bad slot?
