GPU or CPU upgrade?

Looking to upgrade my GPU since most recent games can't even run at high on 1080p. But also want to be sure that my CPU is not gonna be a bottleneck.

Thinking of getting a GTX 1060. Also, will there be any issue if I use an AMD CPU with Nvidia GPU?

My current setup:

GPU: Sapphire AMD R9 280x
CPU: AMD FX 8350
MBD: ASUS M5A89L-M/USB3
RAM: GSkill RipjawsX DDR3 8GB (2x 4GB)

Solution
Brand pairing is fine, you can mix match them without any issues or loss in performance.

A GPU upgrade would definitely be the best idea if you want to increase your Game performance, the CPU probably will be the minor bottleneck in most games but not enough to make the GPU not worth it and upgrading the CPU now wouldn't do as much for your performance as a new GPU would. A GTX 1060 is a good choice but you should also consider an RX 580, generally same price. If you stick with the GTX 1060 i strongly advise the 6GB variant not the 3GB. Hope this helps :)

Is the 6GB worth an extra $100? GTX 1060 3GB costs $260 and the 6GB one costs $360.

The RX580 sells at $430. GPUs are pretty overpriced here in India

Hmm $100 is pretty brutal price jump, just stick with the 3GB then it's mostly just the VRAM you are losing which may limit you from cranking the settings too high in some games, most should be fine though. The FX-8350 should do well with it in most games, CPU bound ones obviously it might be the bottleneck but i wouldn't expect it to completely stump a GTX 1060 3GB much at all.

The 1060 3GB and 6GB are NOT different just in VRAM. The 3GB variant is not even considered a proper 1060. It's a severely cut down 1060. If you can't buy the 6GB then go for an AMD 470.

But as someone else suggested, it's better if you sell your whole system and start from scratch.

THanks everyone for your replies... But, I think I'd rather just wait for a few more months and do a full upgrade.
Pretty tough to pick a solution though,,, everyone was helpful :)
