ok so i need advice. im looking to upgrade my PC i have an AMD A10 7700K, gigabyte GTX 1060, 8gb of ddr3 corsair vengeance RAM, and a 450W PSU. what CPU should i get, i could get an i3 6100 but i would have to upgrade my mobo, and my ram to do so and that is a bit outside my budget (this is the least likley choice to happen).or i could get an amd fx 6300 and only have to upgrade my mobo. OR i could get an AMD Athlon 860/880K and not have to upgrade anything so then i could also buy a better CPU cooler and overclock the CPU. im leaning toward the Athlon but i have heard mixed opinions about it. i really only use my computer for the internet and gaming so i dont really need alot of cores.

In modern AAA games which are CPU heavy the FX6300 won't achieve 60fps and is significantly outperformed by a G4560, I just don't see a FX6300 as a material upgrade over what you have. If me I'd wait until you have budget for an upgrade that will give a decent improvements. Spending money on hardware which is borderline obsolete just doesn't make sense to me.

FYI resolution makes next to no difference on CPU load, 60fps at 1080p takes the same CPU work as 60fps @ 4k. The extra work at 4k is on the gpu.
How about the G4560? It performs about 95% as well as the 6100 at nearly half the price.

The problem is your motherboard only supports old and weak CPU's which will hold back your gpu. I wouldn't throw money into such an old platform, the performance gains will be very disappointing.

i play 2560x1080p 60hz (ultra wide) i could get an fx6300, an am3+ mobo and a nice cooler for 165. or i could get the 860k with a cooler and spend like $100. (i think im leaning towards the 6300 and overclocking it.
