Elitebook 8540p cpu upgrade?

Hi all,
I'm trying to find out how I can upgrade my laptop, but it's pretty hard.

i7-620m (2.66Ghz) socket QM57
NVS 5100M
6GB DDR3 1333MHz

I found out that the laptop pretty much can't handle another gpu because of overheating. But I'm a person that renders a bit, so I need more cpu power. The QM57 family's maximum power cpu is the 940XM, but I heard something about the BIOS and recognizing the cpu. Soooo, my question is, with which cpu can I suck the most power out of the laptop?

You could but you won't really get a noticeable difference in power, already having an i7. you're not far off the best cpu you can get for that laptop. a better option would be a new laptop

I just upgraded my Elitebook 8540p with the i7-840QM, according to the manuel the best CPU. Over all it will be some 20% better in effect than the i7-620m, and with better multitasking with it's 4 cores.

According the manual, you can upgrade the GPU with:

NVIDIA NVS 5100 graphics card 595820-001
NVIDIA Quadro FX 880 graphics card 595821-001
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 graphics card 595822-001
ATI FirePro M5800 graphics card 595823-001

The ATI/AMD FirePro is known to have some issues with drivers/Win10.

The Quadro FX 1800 will give some better kick, but is not a hard core GPU. (20-40 USD on Ebay) I just ordered one for 21 USD

Any way, rendering video an stuff is mostly a CPU work, and the GPU not that important.

From before, I have upgraded with an SSD-system-disk, and I have put the old, larger disk in a caddy-box in the DVD-slot.

I also have upgraded the RAM to 2x4GB DDR3 PC3-12800

It will now serv my use for many years... :)
