3000MHz with Pentium, any issues?

So I'm just starting to build this, and wanted to check if the RAM could cause any issues:

MSI Z170-A Krait Gaming
Pentium G-4400 (Skylake)
8GB Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4 3000 MHz 15-17-17-35 1.35V

Before you turn on the flamethrower, this is my 2nd line system and the RAM is actually loaned from my primary system. It will go back to beefen up the primary system and this one will get some suitable lower grade memory. Once the prices come down ;)

Since there is no overclocking (CPU doesn't even allow that), does the RAM just come down to a lower speed safely and automatically? So I don't even have to tweak settings? At least I won't be frying anything if I plug all this in, right? :heink:

I didn't check if the RAM is in the MB QVL, since MSI didn't seem to even provide one on their site :sarcastic: But since it is available at no cost I'm just betting on the chance that it will work nicely in this system.

yes

correct, just plug in the ram and the motherboard will adjust but since you have a Z170 chipset I'd say you would likely be able to load the XMP for the memory and run them at full speed. Otherwise, yes they will auto adjust and pick safe settings.

Thanks guys! At least they have tested something from Corsair with almost the same product codes. Guess I'll continue with the build right away, just one more game of Homeworld: DoK before I rip out the old MB and parts! :D

Ha. Did I see that coming :D Not a big point but since you're curious, as I said it's my 2nd line system supposedly built at a minimal cost mostly from leftover parts. The Z170 I spotted for a nice price at an outlet (they have plenty of z170 today, and even some z270 would be available too), it's refurbished.

The G4400 is the cheapest Pentium CPU in the stores, and since Z170 supposedly doesn't support Kaby Lake out of the box, I went the easy and cheap way and will use this initially, update the BIOS and in maybe 2 years or so I could drop in the i5-7600K from the main system. Basically I'm trading in some assured convenience for 4 logical cores, since this system won't be used so actively... PCs/gaming/Linux is no longer my main hobby :ouch:

You get more details from my system links.
