First.. I am not very computer savvy. I have had several computer issues. First.. I live very rural.. neighbor is 200 yards away.. I would see airplane mode pop on my task bar connection would slow way down.. i would go to network settings click it and the connection would speed up.. then a icon called infrared started appearing ??? my connection started dropping...I have since put up a wall of metal around my computer..and found how to go into services and disable bluetooth, infrared, wifi, I would go into my firewall and block x box ect. and it would be turned back on.. minutes later.. I have since disable remote connections in services.. now my issue is.. I am seeing my connection as private through ethernet.. but in vpn in network connection it is set toggled to on.. I try to toggle it off and it just pops to on again.. I have it disabled in services and then I went into drivers and disable one virtual driver, it made it go off... I came back and them it was on again.. I disable the second virtual driver.. it went to off again... then back on.. and there it remains.. does this mean someone is connect to me vpn? I have no laptops or routers in my home.. the x box is un plugged. What other driver would allow a vpn connection?

The candy crush game and the xbox app comes with windows, welcome to 2017 where microsoft is taking the philosophy of mobile devices where you have limited control over the operating system.
The items could have very easily reinstalled due to windows updates, we are now on the 3rd version of windows 10 so of you installed the original build then it will update to the Anniversery edition in which those factory apps woudl reinsatll, and then also for the Creators update as well.

If you are LOOSING money then you need to be hiring someone locally to look at your computer.
While it is certianly worth checking if there is a common known solution to your problem, after so many days your problem, or precieved problem, is costing far more then...
Are you using a cellular usb modem? If not then you have a router in your home.

Windows VPN software is a cient only software, meaning you make connection a VPN server, but others cant make a connection to you. Now if you are connected to VPN server then others on that same server could have access to PC in the way another PC sitting inside your home could.

Go to speedtest.net and if it doesnt show the correct location then you may be connected to a VPN.

It sounds like you have some infections on your PC or widnows is completley corrupted.
To be completley safe I would suggest doing a full factory wipe of windows. You can google your specific laptop on how to "restore factory image"

the smart modem is from my carrier and it is not a cellular modem and I don't have a router in my home. I went to speedtest.net and it showed the correct IP address. I had saw a file that was labeled roming..but now can't locate it... I have a flip phone.. not a smart phone never use to connect to the internet.I am on a desk top computer not a lap top..

If the device allows you to connect multiple devices to a single internet connection, it is a router.
If your computer connects to it via wifi or ethernet...its a router.

With what you are describing either you have an infection or windows is completley corrupted, should not see airplane, ir, bluetooth etc toggle on and off under normal conditions.
Best thing you can do is factory reset windows.

FYI you can turn VPN conneciton on, does not mean you connected to a VPN, since you can see the proper IP on the internet then you are not connected to a VPN.
If you ever think you are, you can type ipconfig into a command prompt and it will list the VPN you are connected to if you are.

I just upgraded to the newest Windows 10 ..I have normally shutting the computer down at night..had been leaving it connecte 24/7 for years.. I forgot last night to power down..woke to find a slew of new firewall rules installed that wasn't there previously. Dealing with virtual and networking and sharing. I show 3 icons networks computers but I am not connected to a homegroup.. I have a IPV4 address and then a IPV4DNS SERVER address that is different than my IPV4 and it has a 1 after it then again with a 2 after it ????? I am confused...

Yes, your DNS address will be different then your IP address, and there will be two different IP addresses.
Do you have autometic DHCP setup or a static IP/DNS entries?

Your connection and your firewall rules are can be independent..
Your connection is private, while your firewall has rules turned OFF for private but on for public.

Pay no attention to how windows detects other networking devices, odds are it will be wrong, it makes zero difference in the grand scheme of things operating or being secure.

If your rules truley did change then yes it sounds like you have some sort of infection, possibly a botnet that is using some of your PC resources for its own bidding. As I stated twice now, you need to wipe your computer and reinstal; just watching what is going wrong is not doing anything to fix the problem.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from outdoorparts : "Clean windows..still issues"

I wanted to update my situation..I did a clean install of windows didn't save any of my personal files or folders. I still am having issues. I have paid wifi cellular app installed and xbox games and app. that I didn't have any knowledge of when it reinstalled... I delete the paid wifi app and games but the x box app which I believe comes with windows 10 is un installable. thing is.. the games and wifi cellular reinstalls itself after a bit.. at random times..I tried blocking the games and the wifi/ celluar app on firewall outgoing and incomming then I was unable to connect to the internet.. the diagnostic said it was candy crush and the wifi /celluar block causing the the inability to connect to the internet. I have not been able to work for 2 weeks. my husband is on disability and I work selling on line.. this is really cutting into our income. I still believe someone is using my connection??? Still have firewall rules unblocked..in morning, even with phone cable disconnected, power to computer is left on on.. only husband and self in home. I feel crazy, need assistance.
Had a response from USAFRet but since my original post was moved to that thread to this one I am unable to locate response... if anyone knows how please advise..

Word of advice is to find reputable PC service. That $20-30/hr kid on craigslist might be good, but just as good of a chance that he will cause more harm then good. With the exception of Frys Electronics, the chain store tech support i(like Geek Squad) is also a very bad choice as they often know as little or less then that kid on craigslist, because what they really want is a diagnostics fee AND you to buy a new computer from them.

I was able to stop the games from downloading by putting a new rule in firewall for the games..and slingtv..now that they have stopped slowing my connection from the constant downloading since I was uninstalling them and they were reinstalling them..I am back working.. I also found.. some hidden downloaded files ..that I didn't download..looked greek to me..lol but since then.. all issues have stopped. and yes I agree with Geek Squad..Have taken a computer there and still had the issue when I brought it home. Again..thank you for your time.
