That is always a chance one has to take if buying used from an unknown seller. I have bought many used PC components. Most were good buys. A few weren't. Try to find a seller that offers returns just in case.

It can definitely be worth it. Just try to avoid new sellers with no reputation, if buying somewhere like an auction. Also, avoid any deal that seems too good to be true. If in your area 960s go for $110, yet someone is selling one for $80, that's almost always a warning sign.
