I have a Seagate BUP Slim BK (2TBs).
I accidently dropped it and since then can't access it.
When plugged in, the light of drive turns on but I can't feel the disk spinning inside.
Also the drive is visible in Device Manager Window, but not in My Computer or Disk Management. The drivers are up to date.
Can I do something by myself or should I consult an expert?
Also how much would a recovery like this would cost me in India? The drive mostly has video files.
The drive is still in warranty. So is there anything that the Seagate people might be able to help me with?

Solution
Physical damage is likely excluded under the warranty, and recovery 'at home' can be really tough when the drive is not being detected.

If you need to access the info, the a professional recovery firm would likely be the smartest move. Anything you attempt on it (assuming it doesn't work) could make the data more and more difficult to recover - if not near impossible.

If this is simply a curiosity thing and you want to attempt to recover (and risk losing data), there are many recovery programs that may work - but require the drive to be detected.

I don't believe the fact the drive is showing in device manager means you're in the clear. That could be driver/controller info, and not actually confirmation the drive is detected -...

If you're brave enough - open the enclosure, there's good chance you'll find standard SATA drive inside. You can then connect it directly to a PC, and use Seagate' own diagnostic programs.
Being dropped, its read/write heads might be struck. A gentle tapping might help, as well as a overnight stay in the freezer (I'm not joking).

If you freeze it, there will be condensation forming almost immediately and that will absolutely kill the drive. People used to recommend this back in the old days because drives were small (20-80 mb), and they were gambling that there would be enough time to recover the important data. We're talking about a matter of minutes here, which is nothing against a 2 TB drive.

Hi,

You can consult with data Recovery Company because your hard disk might have physical problem. These types of devices are only open in class 100 clean room lab by data recovery experts only. You can contact any company with class 100 clean room facility. The recovery cost in India is not fixed, recovery cost is vary from device to device and depends on their physical conditions, nature of problem type i.e., Logical problem or physical problem.

If your drive is in warranty, then contact the manufacturer and asked him to give your data back before hard drive replacement and hard drive repair. If they are not able to give your data then contact data recovery services provider.

Thanks
