''yes i checked the motherboard is compatible and im not sure why it says x4 on that picture''

I see yopur board at top [ just did not think when I posted] but still like you why that x4 ??? slot bad ?? card bad ?? seing its now correct and the 2 caeds are now at x16 and you still cant turn on SLI ??

I see a few post on that board like this

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/332158-30-gigabyte-990fxa-functioning

just don't know ? may try to swap cards in the slots [put the bottom card in the top spot and the card on top in the bottom ?] try different drivers ?

could be that evga deal ? maybe bad motherboard or card ? I guess this is why you buy matched cards at the same time and reference cards are preferred...
you do know some evga gtx 970's will not sli with other cards ?? even will not sli with evga cards if not compatible in that chart

https://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59534

assuming all your cards work single with out issue so you know you don't have a bad card or have a extra sli bridge to test just maybe one of then evga 970's that just don't sli with anything but there evga match to do so ?

then with a gtx 970

Furthermore, as we mentioned in our GTX 980 review, GTX 970 has been a pure virtual (no reference card) launch, which means all of NVIDIA’s partners are launching their custom cards right out of the gate. A lot of these have been recycled or otherwise only slightly modified GTX 700/600 series designs, owing to the fact that GM204’s memory bus has been held at 256-bits and its power requirements are so low.
[Anandtech .com]

so with that nothing NVidia speced [ no reference card ] is guaranteed to start with kinda like there not even true NVidia speced designed cards to start with from the get go..

could it be that the bios versions are diffrent?

no should not even 2 sister cards could have different bios . depending on manufacturing dates if any revision was used .

I see that gigabyte card is only at x4 NVidia requires a minimum of x8 maybe why its not detecting

are you sure your motherboard is SLI capable ???

from a NVidia rep ...

''For a motherboard to run in SLI mode, not only must it be SLI certified but the two PCI-E slots you insert the cards into must run at least in PCI-e x8 mode. The option to enable SLI will not appear if one of the cards is in a PCI-e x4 or x1 slot. ''

a motherboard can be crossfire ready but not SLI ready x-fire will work with one card at x4 sli will not

just don't know ? heck for all I know it could be that miserable win-10 malware , I mean OS [lol...]
