Hello everyone!

I am new to the forums and my name is Kevin.

Sorry in advance if the following is too long. I just want to be very detailed in hopes it helps others understand what might have went wrong.

I put a hard drive from my PC into my hard drive dock which was connected to my laptop.
The hard drive had Windows 7 on it, and my laptop is using WIndows 8.1

While I was able to access one partition with some of my photography images
I couldn't access the folder under my admin account cause for some reason my password wasn't getting accepted.

I used the "Remove Hardware" button and that worked.

I later tried again to access the password protected folders and this time the "Remove Hardware" button didn't work.

I closed my laptop so it would go to sleep and I waited.

Then I made sure the lights weren't blinking on the hard drive dock (and also the laptop LEDs) and turned off the dock.

I do this with my other hard drives with no problems.

And I wasn't downloading or uploading anything.

Then I tried again later, and I could access some partitions but not others.
(I could access my photos, but the partition with Windows was not accessible).

I put the hard drive into another tower (as the original tower didn't have an HDMI port and I am at my moms place and only have a large screen TV with hdmi ports and no monitor).

Windows failed to boot, and windows recovery couldn't fix the problem.

Did I break the hard drive? Is Windows not booting because the hard drive is in a new tower.
Is the PC/tower I put the hard drive in not working?

While all the photos on the hard drive in question are backed up, there are some files on there I would like to access.

Thank you so much for reading this and thank you in advance for any help you can offer!

Sincerely,
Kevin H.

P.S. Eeek, I edited the title of this post to be more clear but my message shot to the top of the listings.
Sorry, didn't mean to do that... {removed by Moderator} :(

Hi And Welcome to Tomshardware Forums!

The tower likely will not boot because the old win7 install is using the drivers fro the previous tower.
Try booting up in safe mode.
