Hey guys. I have an old computer that i wanted to update for my daughter, but i'm not sure what parts to buy for the PC. I don't need to best hardware just enough so she can play most games at high settings. but i would appreciate to see what would be the best hardware for ultra settings as well

Solution
No. Get the PSU & GPU and looks if she feels satisfied with that and the game experience. In the case she don't, then start to aim to get a new mobo cpu and the rest.
Which resolution? Let's be clear, that is a 2013 CPU, and its a old system. If you want to give a pretty and decent build for the future, you may be looking for build something from zero.

Why? Well, you will (for start) need a new power supply for the future card. With that, you will need to upgrade the CPU to something strong to handle today/future(?) games without problem. And for that, you will need a new motherboard which in the worst scenario, new ram.

But, post here your budget, and which games want your daughter wants to play, and resolution, of course.

Lucas.

budget not sure on as of now. she wants to play the tomb raider games, and the resolution is 1360x768. i know i can build a pc from scratch but i already have one and this one is just for her and she doesn't need a super powerful computer just a competent one. Im just not sure what to buy for it. i know i cant fit a big GPU in it, i think it will only fit one of those short ones

In that case, i would suggerest you a good power supply, aim for 430w or more W power supply from the following brands: EVGA, SEASONIC, XFX TS/ProSeries, CORSAIR RMx/CMx.

For graphics card: Search GTX 1050 / RX 550.

With that, for graphics she will not have any troubles. Let's hope the CPU can handle the game propertly. If she is interested in Rise of the Tomb Raider, it needs a nice processor.

ok awesome i'll look into those but right now the computer uses a AMD A10-6700 APU which i'm guessing is not a very good processor for gaming. With that in mind would you know of a good Processor that will go well with the gpus you mentioned

FM2 socket (socket which uses the A10 6700) is a dead socket, upgrading to a CPU which fit in that mobo is a waste of money.

So, from my point of view, you have 2 options:

- Get a new CPU & motherboard (depending which CPU and motherboard, new RAM)
- Get a used combo.

I recommended you the PSU & GPU because, neither of the options you choose, you will need both so...

so it would just be better getting a new mobo first. understandable because it is old. need to find one that will fit this case.
