Like the title says, I get huge GPU usage drops in any game with my RX 480, here are a few examples:
Overwatch: 90FPS locked and then 15FPS drops every minute or so
Clustertruck: between 55 and 30 FPS and then drops to 10FPS every 5 seconds or so
Minecraft: 15-20FPS locked

Here's my GPU activity curve (blue) in Wattman while playing Clustertruck:

I've had this problem since October, I'm really getting sick of it..
For more info check out my previous post about the same problem here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3349795/low-cpu-gpu-usage-gaming.html

have you tried looking at your vram usage? Doubt that would be it with 4gb on the 480, but if the card is faulty and has a hardware issue it's possible you're running out of vram. Have you another GPU you could drop in to see if it's the same? Best thing is to take a pragmatic approach and rule out one variable at a time. I know thats easy to say. (don't wanna sound patronizing)

just saw your sig.....are you really running that I5 at 5ghz with a hyper 212. thats some OC. what vcore? can't believe it would be very stable at that speed. Your vcore must be really high, or else you've got an amazing chip. lucky! :)

yeah, i here ya! I'd say it runs fairly hot alright. 24/7 use at that high a vcore is prob gonna half the life. give the chip is already a few yearsold, looks like youre plan for a new rig is coming to fruition! :)

I tried my old R7 260x out and have similar issues (I did this a few months back, I should check again, just to be sure)

I was overclocking my i5 from 3.5 to 4.0 GHz but going back to 3.5GHz didn't help..

I play at 1080p but weirdly enough most games suggest me to play at a much lower resolution.

It worked! I'll post an update soon, I'm re-downloading the Witcher 3, so if it still works in that game I'll be the happiest man alive, I've had this issue since I got the new GPU and PSU around CHristmas so I'm extremely relieved..
Thank you SgtScream!

I remember switching to "High Performance" but now I recall I did it with my old PSU, anyway, keep up the good work ^^
