I am buiding a new PC for Photoshop CC2017. I am not sure if the drive setup I am planning is the best. I appreciate your suggestions:

1- SSD Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB --> OS + working RAW & TIF Files (*)
2- Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 250GB --> PS Scratch Disk
3- 2 TB HHD 7200 (which?) --> DNG+TIF long term storage

(*) I just bought this drive at Amazon, so I can return it and change it for another one if necessary...

TIA!

I goofed my last response, had the quotes messed up :p

But RAID 1 is called a mirrored array because data is written verbatim to each of the drives in the array. That provides fault tolerance. If one of the drives dies, corrupts, or becomes unusable, no data is lost. If you had two 2TB HDDs in...

Why not just 1 big ssd? I notice no difference between my wd 1tb ssd or the 850 (not sure) nvme that used to be in my pc.

I thought it would be best to have the scrath disk on a separate drive...Maybe it's not necessary? 1TB SSD could be an option...What about M.2: is it worth it for Photoshop CC2017? And 850 Evo vs 850 PRO? Is it worth paying more for PRO?

In that case, if I were you, I would invest in a mirrored RAID1 configuration for your sensitive project data. 2x2TB RAID 1. The other option for bulk storage would be your 2TB+ HDD and weekly backups of the entire volume.

How important do you think having a scratch drive is?

The RAID1 is for security or for performance? Would it be an SSD RAID1 setup? I don't have security issues because I always have at least 2-3 copies of all my work (even work in progress).

As for the scratch disk Photoshop uses, I don't know if it can be in the same drive as the OS & programs (supposing it is an SSD) or it is best to use a separate SSD/HDD...

(sorry, I wrote my question in the wrong box!). Here's my reply:

Just get a standard 850 evo 1tb photoshop rarely has trouble if at all with disk usage when using an ssd.

But RAID 1 is called a mirrored array because data is written verbatim to each of the drives in the array. That provides fault tolerance. If one of the drives dies, corrupts, or becomes unusable, no data is lost. If you had two 2TB HDDs in RAID1, you remain at 2TB for the storage. Data is duplicated across all drives. There isn't any security aspects to this, in terms of encryption or anything.

Reading that you have your project files in multiple places doesn't necessitate a RAID1 configuration though. It was just a thought :)
