If I run a speed test on my phone I get 30MB/S however in the same place on my pc I get 2MB/S. I am very confused by this and also it is very unhelpful since it is nearly impossible to do with such slow speeds. I am using a usb dongle. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Solution
Ok I just solved it. The issue was the network adapter. I tried a different one and now get a significantly faster speed. Thanks for all the suggestions though.
What is the model of the USB dongle?

Also, for testing can you think about where your router is and mentally draw a straight line as if you attached a piece of string from the router to the dongle. Does the signal have to pass through the PC case, desk, file cabinet, etc? Could you make it so there is nothing between the dongle and the router just to test if its the case or desk obstructing the signal? Maybe set the pc on top of the desk and orient the dongle so it is facing the router.

as jamesneed says its all about signal strength . It doesn't matter what speed things are rated at if it has a bad signal it will drop down . Also not all connections are equal . The phone wiil have an aerial the length of the phone whilst the dongle will probably be quite short hence the difference.
If you plan on online gaming I would defiantly consider a cable connection or maybe a powerline to imrpove the connection to pc.

The dongle is a Realtek RTL8188CU. The confusing thing is the connection is showing full signal however the speed is very slow.

It could .
Do you know how to access setting in your router? You could change the channel and see if its any better . There's an app for smartphones that detects wi-fi signals and determines the least busy channel to operate on . usually channels 1 6 or 11 are good as they don't overlap .
