7.1 via USB? Cash scam?

Hello!

I am on the look for a new headset. I see alot of companies claim 7.1 via USB connection, but to my best knowledge that is not possible, only via the optical input/output?

If this is true, can it atleast run 5.1 via USB? Or only stereo?

If the 7.1 is a "simulated" 7.1 and not true 7.1, whats the difference?

Besides SPIDIF there were indeed a pair of headsets that used true 5.1 or 7.1 analog sound with independant drums in each ear and jacks for each audio plug, forgot the brand

Any headset is a 2.1 stero headset the 5.1 and 7.1 is just simulated. You'll notice the diffrence if you have every used regular 5.1 and 7.1 speaker setups before.

No way . I have a medusa headset with 8 actual drivers in it and i know from online gaming its true 7.1 (5.1 in games)and I have just blown the rear left and its pixxing me off.
