At the moment I am creating a test bench computer with some old hardware, a cpu which is not officially supported by my mobo is installed but when it is turned on there is no heat generated. Would this be because the cpu is incompatible or potentially a different problem, I was just wondering as I am expecting a compatible cpu soon.

What is the motherboard and CPU in question? It may not work because it can't get enough power. It just might not have the proper CPU connections due to its incompatibility. Why did you decide...

as far as I am aware there is nothing wrong with the motherboard or cpu, no bent pins etc. My point is that I only tested it with this unsupported cpu because it was the right socket, although it may not be supported. I was wondering if the cpu was incompatible should I expect there to be not heat from it or any noise from the motherboard.

Why did you decide to install an incompatible CPU? You did get the expected outcome. It is incompatible so it won't work. It is not working so there is no heat.
